This is a bit of a grey area as different insurance companies have different policies. However, most require at least 1 British Standard lock on an external door to your property. We would always recommend a British Standard kite marked lock which will comply to BS3621. We recommend checking with your insurance company if you are unsure.

The reason we recommend to change the locks to your new home is that you never know who has had a set of keys previously to the property and how many sets may be floating around. In most cases no, you will not need to change the lock if you have snapped the key. Certainly with a nightlatch (Yale) type lock. 99% of the time we can remove the broken key and the lock will be fine.
